Calculating Multiple Child Support Orders

Multi-Order Calculator

The multi-order calculator assists income providers/employers with determining the appropriate amount of support to deduct and send for employees with multiple child support orders. The accuracy of the result is dependent upon the accuracy of the information employers enter in the required fields. The calculator complies with the withholding requirements pursuant to the Federal Consumer Credit Protection Act (CCPA) and follows the hierarchy requirements allowing deductions to first apply to current support and then other obligations second.

Instructions:

1. Click on "Multi-Order Calculator" in the upper right hand corner of this page.

2. Enter employee name in box shown.

3. Enter employee's aggregated earnings for this pay period in the box titled "net wages." (Aggregated earnings is the net income left after making mandatory deductions such as state, federal and local taxes, Social Security and Medicare taxes.)

4. Enter the appropriate percentage that should be withheld based on the CCPA guidelines (between 50-65%).

50%

Employee claims other dependents and arrears are less than 12 weeks

55%

Employee claims other dependents and arrears are more than 12 weeks

60%

Employee does NOT claim other dependents and arrears are less than 12 weeks

65%

Employee does NOT claim other dependents and arrears are more than 12 weeks

(Note: Each income withholding order has a section designated on page 2 which identifies whether the employee has an arrears of 12 weeks or greater).

5. The "max deduction permitted" is calculated for you once the "net wages" and "CCPA percentage" are entered.

6. Enter the "case number" and "order number" for each of the withholding orders for this employee. (Note: You may have case numbers that are identical with order numbers. If so, enter the amounts for each of these - these are not duplicates).

7. Enter the TOTAL order amount for each of the employee's withholding orders.

8. From each of your withholding orders, list the "current obligations" only in the appropriate column. Based on Ohio law, deductions must first be applied to current obligations. Then, if money is available, deductions can be applied towards the employee's other obligations such as past due support and fees.

9. The amounts to be withheld and applied to each of the employee's cases is calculated for you. You may print and remit with your check or simply show these prorated amounts for each case/order number on your check stub.
