State law created the Butler County Child Support Enforcement Agency on January 1, 1988. Originally, the agency operated under the direction of the Domestic Relations Court, but the Butler County Board of Commissioners became the appointing authority in 1994.

Executive Director Raymond C. Pater III
In 2011, Raymond Pater became the agency's executive director. Pater has a bachelor's degree in english literature from Miami University, a master's degree in business administration from Xavier University and juris doctorate from the University of Dayton.
Prior to becoming executive director, he served as the deputy director of the agency from 2005 to 2011 and staff attorney and assistant chief legal counsel from 2000 to 2005. Before working for the CSEA, he worked in the child support division of the Butler County Prosecutor's Office from 1993 to 2000. From 1992 to 1993, he served as the attorney for Williams County CSEA.
Pater is a past president of the Ohio CSEA Directors' Association.
Over the past 20 years, the agency has received numerous awards from the Ohio Office of Child Support, the National Child Support Enforcement Association, the National Association of Counties, the Ohio CSEA Directors' Association and the Ohio Family Support Association in recognition of our achievement in child support collections and enforcement.
